CLINICAL SUPERVISION
Create Positive Results By Investing In Yourself With The Support You Need
"WHAT IS SUPERVISION?"
“The vision of others, not necessarily from over but from outside the counselling process, is an invaluable stimulus for awareness and growth for the student and more experienced practitioner. Our profession and its codes demand that we regularly make such opportunities available to develop a vision as clear and focused as we can.
Generally, the principles of the Codes of Ethics (ACA/PACFA) in Australian context, of the supervisee will cover most of the issues for supervision. Respecting diversity, seeking positive change, focusing on client needs rather than our own needs, clear boundaries and contracts all apply. In that spirit, treating supervisees as a counsellor would a client, cover most issues.
In their difficult and responsible tasks, supervisors should themselves be in supervision. This is especially the case when the supervision is at significant clinical depth because the same relationship forces that are taken by counsellors to supervision are paralleled by the supervisor and supervisee. The vision from beyond the process provides important clarity.”
